A Scratch Golf sixty degree wedge was in the bag of one of the participants that tied for tenth place at last weekend’s Nationwide Tour Stop, the Northeast Pennsylvania Classic which was held at Glenmaura National Golf Club in Scranton. Scratch Golf wedges were the # 1 Forged Wedge on the PGA’s Nationwide Tour*. For the year, Scratch Wedges have 8 “top 5s”, 13 “top 10s” and 29 “top 25s” on all PGA Tours worldwide. Scratch Golf wedges are unique in that their sole grinds are customized to match a golfer’s specific path into the ball and divot pattern. Scratch wedges are also forged from super soft 1018 Carbon steel making them the softest wedges available in the game today. With golf balls getting harder and harder every year, many PGA Tour players worldwide marvel at the “feel” that Scratch’s 1018 forged wedges provide. Several have commented that using a Scratch wedge gives them the feeling that they are hitting an old “balata” ball. For more information on Scratch Golf, visit www.scratchgolf.com.

Scratch Golf has confirmed that its wedges were the # 1 Forged Wedge on the PGA’s Nationwide Tour according to the Darrell Survey Report from the 2007 “Preferred Health Systems Wichita Open”, which took place at the Crestview Country Club in Wichita, Kansas. Scratch Golf manufactures premium forged wedges and irons and over the last two seasons has become the fastest growing forged wedge on Tour. More and more Tour players are choosing Scratch Wedges and those making the switch have highlighted the unique, soft feel of Scratch Wedges. Scratch Golf manufacturers its equipment from super soft 1018 Carbon Steel forgings, the softest forging metal in golf. No other manufacturer currently uses 1018 Carbon Steel, which is very costly and which is very labor intensive to produce. Currently the PGA Nationwide Tour Scoring Average Leader, Pre-Cut Scoring Average Leader and Sunday Scoring Average Leaders are using Scratch Golf wedges. At the Wichita Open, Scratch Golf had as many forged wedges in play as the 2nd and 3rd place forged wedge companies combined.
“We are extremely proud to have gained status as the # 1 Forged Wedge on the Nationwide Tour,” Scratch Golf CEO Ari Techner began. “We are elated that so many top players feel that using our wedges gives them an edge in terms of scoring and ‘getting it close’. Scratch Golf offers Tour Players, as well as the average golfer, more options than any other golf equipment manufacturer. Our Tour Department, which handles our custom retail orders as well, can make any type of wedge or iron imaginable and the guys out on the Nationwide Tour have shown their appreciation of our unique ability and willingness to provide them with, in most cases, more than they ever imagined they could have in terms of creating equipment to suit the wants and needs of their games. As much as anything else we do, however, the Tour players that have put our wedges into play tell us over and over again that our super soft 1018 Carbon forgings really help bring more feel to their short game than any other equipment company can provide. This Darrell Survey wedge count report, to us, reflects the dedication the entire Scratch Golf team to our goal of providing the finest equipment that can truly help golfers of all ability levels score their absolute best in what we feel is the most important part of the game, wedge-play. As always, we want to thank every Touring Pro that has tried our equipment and, especially, those that have put Scratch Golf wedges in play. Becoming the # 1 Forged Wedge on the PGA Nationwide Tour is a wonderful early milestone for our company and we look forward to many more ahead.”

Scratch Golf wedges were in the bags of top finishers on both the PGA European and Nationwide Tours last weekend, the company has confirmed. On the Nationwide, one competitor used three Scratch wedges to earn a tie for 7th place at the 2007 “Wichita Open”. This performance helped move this young player up to 57th place on the Nationwide Money Leader List. Last week his Money List position was 68th. Despite not being exempt on the Nationwide Tour (yet), this competitor has some outstanding 2007 Nationwide Stats to his credit. In limited play, he is # 1 in Scoring Average, # 1 in Pre-Cut Scoring, # 1 in Sunday Scoring and # 1 in Par Breakers which all contribute to a # 4 ranking in Overall Stats on the Nationwide Tour: all with Scratch wedges in his bag.
Across the Atlantic, Scratch Wedges were in the bag of a player that tied for 13th at the PGA Euro Tour’s “The Russian Open Golf Championship”, which was held at Le Meridien Moscow Country Club in Moscow, Russia. Scratch Golf officials believe that this performance is the highest finish yet for Scratch Golf on the European PGA Tour.

Scratch Golf earned another top five on the PGA Nationwide Tour during the final round of the Nationwide Children’s Hospital Invitational which was held at the Ohio State University “Scarlet” course in Columbus, Ohio. According to company officials, this tie for fifth was special because the club that was used was not a custom “Tour Department” grind, as is generally the case. The 60 degree wedge that earned the top five this week was the JLM Series “PDG” sweeper/slider grind for players with a shallow angle of attack and little to no divot. While this club was customized with a “Satin Chrome” finish and personalized stampings, the grind itself was the same as is currently available through authorized Scratch Golf retailers such as Golfsmith (www.golfsmith.com).
“We at Scratch Golf are very proud that we have so many Tour players’ confidence in our wedges,” Scratch Golf Chief Design Engineer and Master Grinder Jeff McCoy stated. “The ‘PDG’ grind, like the entire JLM Series, came about as the result of making thousands of custom ground wedges during the first three years of our company’s existence. In order to properly fit what we’ve identified as three different swing types, I kept making the same five grinds over and over again. These five grinds make up our ‘JLM’ Series and I am of the opinion that at least 90% of all golfers out there can successfully fit themselves into one of these grinds and really improve their performance within 120 yards of the green. While we can and do make wedges from ‘Scratch’ for our Tour players and our most demanding customers, the ‘JLM’ Series offers every golfer out there the opportunity fit themselves into what is essentially a custom ground wedge. That makes us every bit as proud as a great performance on Tour.”
Scratch Golf announced that its wedges earned a 4th place finish at the PGA Nationwide Tour’s “Legend Financial Group Classic Presented by Cynergies Solutions” which was held at StoneWater GC in Highland Heights, Ohio. In his first week using Scratch Golf equipment, this player recorded his best finish of the year, a solo fourth. The fourth place finish on the Nationwide continued an incredible eight week run during which Scratch Golf wedges have earned 10 Top Ten finishes on PGA Tours worldwide. Scratch Golf wedges also made their major championship debut at last month’s U.S. Open at Oakmont CC in Oakmont, Pennsylvania.
“It has been very exciting for Scratch Golf out on Tour the last couple of months,” Scratch Golf PGA Tour Rep Paul Friedrich commented. “Our ‘top five’this week was especially exciting because this player is a new Scratch convert. It’s always rewarding to have a new player put our wedges in play, in this case it was a Tour Department 55 degree special grind. We are making real progress each week and among forged wedge OEM companies, we are taking steps toward being the # 1 forged wedge on the Nationwide Tour. With more and more players using our products, we are confident that we will continue our current hot streak of top tens out on Tour.”
Scratch Golf captured a 5th place finish on the PGA Nationwide Tour at last weekend’s “Peek’n Peak Classic” in Findlay Lake, New York. Heading into this week’s Nationwide Tour Stop, the “Legend Final Group Classic” in Ohio, Scratch Golf wedges had earned 8 top tens, 6 top fives and 4 top threes over the past 7 weeks. Scratch Golf officials expect more of the company’s wedges to be in play this week on the Nationwide.
